Project Description

Hailing from Austin, Texas, pianist Benjamin Laude is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree at the Juilliard School in New York City. In the past few years, Laude has established himself as a pianist of international caliber, performing in prestigious venues across the country, including a pair of appearances in both Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall. Recent solo engagements have taken him from New York to Houston, TX and Key Biscayne, FL. Laude is the recipient of innumerable distinctions and awards, including top prizes in the Senior Concerto Division of the Kingsville International Competition and Rice University—Shepherd School of Music concerto competition, and in 2008 he was named the national Yamaha Young Performing Artist competition award winner in piano. He is an avid chamber musicians and performer of new music, and regularly plays piano and Celeste in the Juilliard Orchestra. In addition to music, Laude has made his mark as a writer, winning the annual Juilliard Journal Award in 2012 for outstanding contributions to the paper. More recently, Laude recently founded an independent publication, The Yard, run entirely by Juilliard students and dedicated to representing the interests of young performing artists in New York City and beyond. Laude holds a Bachelor’s of Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he studied with Robert Roux, and a master’s from Juilliard where he studied with Jerome Lowenthal and Matti Raekallio.
